Problem Statement:

What is the effect of music piracy on the music industry and how does it affect you?

Learning Challenge:

Your favorite band, the Melting Pots, has had two top ten songs in the last year. They have released three albums and were nominated for the best new band at the Grammy awards this year. The Melting Pots have appeared on Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel. They have many fans, including many of your friends. However, you just heard on the radio that the band will probably break up at the end of their current tour! The breakup is not due to personality conflicts or artistic difference--it is because they are losing so much money due to music piracy! Their CDs are being "ripped" faster than they can be sold! The band's manager explained in a radio interview that the band members are going to have to quit playing their music and find other jobs in order to pay off the massive debts they acquired recording and touring.

You are heartsick over this news! You really love the band's music. In fact. you have tickets to their concert next month. Are you really the band's number one fan? If you are, then you will consider it your personal mission to SAVE THE MUSIC! With a group of your friends, come up with a plan to help the band continue making the music you love.
