Animal Sorter
Activity: Around the room, there are 5 posters with reptiles, mammals, amphibians, birds, and fish. In your groups, you will need to find 3 pictures of animals in the magazines. Once you find your 3 animals, tape them on the poster that describes your animal.
Materials:
· posters labeled with animal classification groups
· magazines
· scissors
· tape

What do these things have in common?
Activity: Remember how we sorted the class into boys and girls. Find another way to sort your big group into 2 or 3 smaller groups. Look for the things that are the same for some and different for others. You will email another class and ask them how they would sort their class. Email mbolte@d91.net

What a Zoo!
Activity: Once you are in your groups, each of you will have a job. The writer will write the 5 things down on a piece of paper. This person has the pencil card. The clicker will use the mouse to click on the maps. This person has the mouse card. The talker will tell the class what the map has. This person will have the child card. Your group will use the computer to look at different zoo maps. Pick one zoo you would like to visit from the list. On a piece of paper, write 5 different things that you see on the zoo map.

Map Maker
Activity: Your group needs to draw a map of a zoo. You may look back at the websites on the computer to help you draw your map. You may visit one of the websites below. In your group, discuss what your zoo needs including animal cages. First, pick a name for your zoo. Using a poster board, draw out your map with a pencil and label your animal cages. After everything is labeled, color with crayons. Posters will be hung in the room for display.

Questions, please!
Activity: In your group, think about what you would like to ask a zookeeper. Write 3 asking questions on a piece of paper. You will get to ask these questions to a zookeeper on their visit to the class or a trip to the zoo. You will email another class and ask them what they would ask a zookeeper. Email mbolte@d91.net

Mayhem in P.E.
Activity: In your group you will have a bag of cards. Take a card and look at the picture. The people with the zookeeper cards will help sort the animals. The other cards are animal cards and you become the animal on that card. Pretend you are that animal by moving and making your animal sound. The zookeepers will put the animals in their correct cages.

· create ‘cages’ in the gym
