PERIMETER AND AREA ACTIVITY SHEET

Perimeter (P) is the number of unit lengths around a figure.

          Formula – Perimeter = (2 x length) + (2 x width) or P = (2 x l) + (2 x w)

Area (A) is the number of square units that cover a figure.

          Formula – A = length x width

Example:

                                                                           9cm

                                      18cm

P = (2 x 18) + (2 x 9)                                    Area = 18 x 9

P = 36 + 18                                                 Area = 36

P = 54

Find the perimeter and the area.

1)        l = 12 cm                                        2)

w = 9 cm                                       30cm

                                                                                75cm

3)  l = 100m                                                 4)  l = 18cm

     w = 50m                                                      w = 10cm

5)     Perimeter = 24                                         6)

L = 8cm                                                 3.5cm

W = ?                                                                       6.9cm

CHANGING UNITS OF MEASURE

You can multiply to change units of measurement from larger units to smaller units.

     Example:  12 gal. = _____ qt.                        THINK:  1gal. = 4 qt.

              12 x 4 = 48

              12 gal. = 4 qt.

To change units of measurement from smaller units to larger units, you need to divide.

     Example:  80 oz. = ____ lb.                           THINK:  1 lb. = 16 oz.

              80 divided by 16 = 5

              80 oz. = 5 lb.

     Example:  27 in. = ____ ft. ____ in.               THINK:  1 ft. = 12 in.

              27 divided by 12 = 2 r 3

              27 in. = 2 ft. 3 in.

Complete:

1.  7 lb. = ____ oz.                                  2.  9 gal. = ____ qt.

3.  ____ lb. = 80 oz.                                4.  80 in. = ____ ft. ____ in.

5.  9 yd. = ____ ft.                                   6.  70 pt. = ____ qt.

7.  ____ lb. = 2.5 T                                  8.  28 qt. = ____ gal.

9.  3 ____ = 15,480 ft.                                     10.  45 in. = ____ ft. ____ in.
