MATH AND POND LIFE

Develop four math problems/stories related to pond life.  Use power point or the overhead projector to present your problems and answers.

 

POND POETRY

Using any style of poetry, create a poem, expressing your feelings about the South Pond.  Print out your poem on creative stationary.  Check poetry rubric to view grading criteria before writing.

 

SING A SONG

Compose lyrics for a song using the information you have uncovered about the South Pond.  Check writing rubric to view grading criteria before writing.

 

FOR EVERY CAUSE THERE IS AN EFFECT

List on a (provided) cause and effect chart the possible causes and effects of pollution on standing water.

 

ONCE A POND A TIME

Write a story about the South Pond to share with a “young reader”.

 

CAN WE TALK?

Create three to six questions that are directly related to the South Pond.  Use these questions to interview a Lincoln Park Zoo official by way of the internet (e-mail).  Share your results in a written report which will be presented to the class.

Upon completion of the cause and effect activity, you will write a letter to your alderperson.  You should have enough information to inform him/her of why it is important to protect our environment from pollution.

 

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?

You will compare and contrast the North and South Ponds in picture form. Both pictures will be placed on one sheet of paper. List your information on the back with a Venn diagram.

 

FLASH

Place “Pond Vocabulary” words on index cards.  Place definitions on separate cards. Place cards face down on the desk. Facing cards up try to match the words with their definitions.
